Last weekend, I gave a broad overview of the state of a variety of leagues across the Americas. Starting this week, I want to be a bit more focused on the action in the leagues, with the goal of having a bit more detail on the results and week-to-week updates while still remaining fairly high-level.

United States - NWSL - 2026 Season

Week 4 Matches - March 27 - 29

Match of the Week

Angel City 2-1 Houston Dash
Full Match | Highlights

Sveindís Jónsdóttir continued her excellent start to the season with a rocket from just outside the box that kickstarted ACFC’s quick second-half comeback. Houston will rue a strong start and their first-half chances that could have sealed a big road win before ACFC could turn it around in the second half.

Highlight of the Match: Jónsdóttir’s equalizer has to take the prize for the highlight of the match. There’s little prettier than a curler from the top of the box.

Match of the Week

Orlando Pride 2-1 Angel City
Full Match | Highlights

Angel City have been the darlings of the early season, and they brought their perfect record to Orlando, who have been much better than their record reflects. Despite quality chances from both sides, including both Banda and Jónsdóttir failing to score on dangerous chances, the final minutes of the match turned into a goal fest at McCutheon scored two bizarre goal line-scramble tap-ins either side of a Giselle Thompson golazo.

Highlight of the Match: Despite Orlando winning, the highlight of the match has to be Thompson’s goal for Angel City. It is a well-struck shot from the top of the box that is unstoppable. And her touch to open up the shot? Simple but sublime.

NWSL Standings

It’s still early days, so there’s not much to say at this point. So much still to play for, and we’ve confirmed that no one will be perfect this season (shocker, right?). This international break will be a consequential one in CONCACAF and CONMEBOL, but it’s also at an inconvenient time, as the league is just getting going, and the story lines for the season are starting to develop nicely. It’s a bummer they have to be set aside for a stretch.

Mexico - Liga MX Femenil - 2026 Clausura

Week 14 Matches - March 25 - 29

Match of the Week

Tigres 0-1 Club América
Full Match | Highlights

We finally got the match up of the apertura finalists, and the match delivered the drama, if not a boatload of goals. Tigres came out hot and heavy, creating multiple changes in the opening 10 minutes to take lead, including a shot that clanged off the crossbar. After surviving that initial onslaught, América settled and tilted the field in their direction. Like Tigres, América spent the next stretch of play creating multiple good chances to score. Unlike Tigres, América didn’t squander them all. In the 36’ Geyse put away a great cutback from Sarah Luebbert. A controversial no-call could have given Tigres a penalty just before the half-time when Myra Delgadillo was taken down in the box. It was light contact, and accidental, but still a penalty in my mind.

The second half was less dramatic, but it still had plenty of action. Both sides created chances, and Tigres saw another shot clang the woodwork, but Tigres could not find a winner.

Highlight of the Match: In a match with a lot of decent changes, the one that goes in reigns supreme. And, really, the highlight of the goal is Luebbert’s work to get into the box and drive before her cutback to Geyse.

Match of the Week

Monterrey 3-0 UNAM Pumas
Full Match | Highlights

Monterrey have quietly been the most consistent team throughout the 2026 Clausura. They’ve yet to lose, and they’ve only conceded a total of 4 goals in their 15 matches so far. Other matches this week had more action, but I wanted to draw attention to this match for how it really illustrates Monterrey’s efficiency. Rayadas, in a mid-week match, can field a mix of for-sure starters and occasional starters and defeat a Pumas side that, while struggling of late, are a threat to anyone. Perhaps I’m choosing this as the match of the week, not because it was the best match, but because it is a good reminder that there’s no evidence to doubt Monterrey will win it all beyond one’s general sense that this squad shouldn’t do it this season.

Highlight of the Match: The opening goal is a simple example of how quickly Rayadas can go from winning a second ball to scoring a goal. The first of Emily Gielnik’s hat trick.

Match of the Week

Tigres 2-2 Chivas
Full Match | Highlights

In her predictions preview for the 2026 Clausura, Melissa Castro predicted Chivas to win the league, and I recall being excited by the prediction because I felt like Chivas’s additions pushed them into the genuine contenders tier. And they’re still there. After this match against Tigres, I’m not sure where I should fall now.

Tigres was the better side in this match, but that’s to be expected. Tigres are one of the best teams in the league and playing at home. Even if we consider Chivas to also be a top team in the league, we don’t expect them to stroll into El Volcán and dominate. But Chivas kept Tigres at bay while sneaking two goals for themselves.

In the second half, Tigres still had the better of play, but they scored two goals, completing the comeback with María Sánchez’s 89’ equalizer. But these weren’t good goals. Don’t get me wrong, Sánchez does well to score from distance, but she’s got a favorable situation due to poor defending from Chivas earlier the play. The Tigres opener for Ordoñez comes from a bad mistake in communication from Bianca Felix, the Chivas keeper. In the second half, with a lead, Chivas didn’t look calm and composed enough to see out the match. With one week remaining before the top 8 move over to the liguilla playoffs, Chivas can still finish 3rd and have a favorable run to the clausura title, but this kind of match invites doubt. Of course, the reverse to this holds too. Chivas just scored two away goals and drew the apertura champs. If you can do that in the liguilla, you can go places.

Highlight of the Match: Both of Chivas’s goals were nice, but the second goal was my pick of the lot. Alicia Cervantes controls well, touches for a bit of space, then puts an inch perfect shot into the corner that no one expects. There’s a part of me that feels Ceci Santiago should do better in goal, but I believe she’s unsighted, and the shot is place perfectly, that I ultimately settle on all the credit going to Cervantes.

Liga MX Femenil Standings

There is one week remaining before the top 8 teams break off and move into the knockout style liguilla. Chivas and Juarez play each other before the formal launch of the week 17 matches, where everyone will play their final match. Toluca and Juarez will attempt to win that last playoff spot. Monterrey and América will fight for that top spot. In the middle of that top 8? A nice big jumble of possible seeding shifts. So there’s still a lot of excitement for week 17.

El Salvador - Primera Femenina - 2026 Clausura

Week 16 Matches - March 28 - 29

Match of the Week

Municipal Limeño 6-1 CD FAS
Full Match | Highlights

In the initial fixture between the two sides, FAS frustrated Limeño throughout the match, holding onto a 0-0 draw. FAS has fallen a bit sense the, but they’re still a team that can challenge anyone. Limeño, for their part, came into the week in first. With their main opponent -Inter FA and Alianza- facing lighter opposition, it was imperative they won to maintain their position atop the league table.

Damaris Quélez and María Rodallega shared the spoils in the opening half, giving Limeño the 2-0 at the break. They would both score in the second half, putting the match beyond doubt, as Limeño ran out 6-1 victors. Quélez would score a hat trick in the match.

Highlight of the Match: Because the match wasn’t broadcast anywhere, I cannot provide a highlight, but I’ll single out Quélez celebrating after her hat trick.

Match of the Week

CD FAS 2-1 Zacatecoluca
Full Match | Highlights

The top three are pretty well settled for the clausura playoffs, but the battle for there is a three-horse race for those next three spots, integral to seeding in the playoffs. Zacatecoluca entered the week in 4th place, three points ahead of CD Fas, with Fuerte San Francisco hot on their heels.

Zacatecoluca took the lead in the first half, but FAS were able to equalize in the 45’ through their captain, Alisson Ramírez. CD FAS were able to complete the comeback as second half sub, Isela Germán, scored the winner. The result left Zacatecoluca in 4th, but FAS are now equal with them on points.

Highlight of the Match: Because the match wasn’t broadcast anywhere, I cannot provide a highlight, but I’ll single out Germán celebrating after her winner.

Match of the Week

Municipal Limeño 4-1 Fuerte San Francisco
Full Match | Highlights

Limeño got out front early with a goal in the 6’ from Gladis Flores, but from the ensuing restart, Fuerte drove and forced a good save from Limeño’s keeper, Ángela Panameño. Flores had her second in the 10’ on a quick turn and strike after a poor touch from a Fuerte defender.

Despite the early setbacks, Fuerte continued to fight and nearly got in 1v1 with the keeper when an attacker read a pass between defenders and tried to intercept, but the pass was just outside her reach. Moments later, in the 19’, Fuerte won a freekick just outside of Limeño’s box. Fuerte’s Flor Sarabia took the kick and and forced a great save from Ángela Panameño, who had to palm the dipping shot off the crossbar and away.

The match settled into an even stalemate until the 36’ when a quick Limeño move found Ismelda Cruz open at the top of Fuerte’s box. A hard retreating defender blocked her first shot, and she took a first-time shot from the rebound and put the in the top corner for 3-0. Once again, moments after the goal, Fuerte would force another great save from Panameño.

This was the story of the first half. Limeño finished their chances and Fuerte had theirs saved. Cruz would score a fourth before the halftime whistle. Fuerte would win a penalty in the second half that was finished by Jaqueline González to finish the scoring. Limeño were just the most efficient team in from of goal. Though, they earned the full points, goalkeeper Ángela Panameño had to be subbed off in the second half from an injury stemming from the collision that led to Fuerte’s penalty. Ho

Highlight of the Match: Ángela Panameño made a number of great saves keep a potential Fuerte fight back from materializing. These two saves from first-half freekicks stand out as the best.

As the clausura enters the final stretch, the main storyline remains who will top the table when the teams head into the playoffs. The top 8 teams qualify for the playoffs, but only the top 3 teams have shown the quality to reach the final and win. Of course, that next tier of teams have an upset in them, but it’s hard to see them having enough to make a run to the final, let alone win the title.

Municipal Limeño has been holding strong at the top for a number of weeks now, but they have no room for error, as both Alianza and Inter FA are right on their tails.

Guatemala - Liga Bantrab - 2026 Clausura

Week 10 Matches - March 28

Match of the Week

Cobaneras 1-0 Unifut
Full Match / 2nd Half | Highlights

Unifut (lighter purple in vid) have historically been the dominant team in the league, but the 2026 Clausura has been a rough season for them. They’re still safely in a top-8 spot to make the final phase playoffs, but this road match to Cobaneras is a key battle for the two teams fighting to be near the top heading into the playoffs. For Cobaneras, they

Cobaneras opened the match strongly, but Unifut fought their way back, aided in part by a sudden downpour. The goal came in the ~25th minute when Evony Ac drove to the top of the box, beating a defender, and blasting a shot past the Unifut keeper. The Unifut keeper will want the chance back, as she should have saved. Cobaneras nearly had a second 5 minutes later, but a spilled ball from the keeper was put over the bar. UnifutT would have the bulk of the chances the rest of the match, but they never really threatened Cobaneras’s goal, and hosts took away the 1-0 victory.

Highlight of the Match: In a 1-0 win, the highlight has to go to the goal. Evony Ac’s first-half goal proved the winner in a key result for Cobaneras.

Match of the Week

Cuilco 1-0 Xelajú
Full Match | Highlights

Cuilco, the apertura champions, entered the week perfect, and they looked to remain that way as they welcomed 4th placed Xelajú. For their part, Xelajú are amongst the mix of teams challenging Cuilco, and win would see the visitors move into second place. It’s a matchup to help determine position ahead of the playoffs.

Cuilco had the better of play to open the match, but Xelajú were able to prevent any dangerous chances from developing. Focusing on defense first, Xelajú didn’t generate an attack until the 21’ and their first shot on goal came in the 41’, in the form of a freekick from 40 yards out that was easily saved. The goal came in first-half stoppage time, and it was a beaut. Iranis Ceteno gets on her bike to clean up the ball bouncing in Xelajú’s box. The hosts entered the half 1-0.

Xelajú pushed forward in the second half and created more offense than in the first, but they were largely reduced to half chances. Cuilco remained a threat, especially on the counter, but neither team could find the net.

Highlight of the Match: I said earlier, in a 1-0 result, the highlight of the match is typically the goal, but that goes double when the goal is a bicycle kick. Take a bow, Iranis Ceteno.

With one matchweek remaining, the teams that have qualified for the playoffs are set. Despite having one match remaining, neither Villa Nueva nor Antigua can catch USAC in the standings. Aside from 1st and 8th places, the positions are in flux, so week 12 will be integral to establishing seeding for the playoffs.
